At Crane Optical, providing exceptional eye care is more than just our profession—it’s a family tradition. Serving Southeastern Michigan since 1949, we are proud to be the longest-standing business in the community, caring for individuals and families for generations.

 Founded by Dr. Leonard Crane in downtown Ferndale, our practice has remained in the same location ever since. In 1972 Dr. Howard Crane, Dr. Leonard Crane’s son, joined the practice and together they built a legacy of trusted eye care that has served thousands of patients over seven decades. Today, Howard's sons, Jeremy and Andy, are actively involved in the business.

In addition to comprehensive eye care, we offer a wide selection of top brand name frames, contact lenses, and high-quality lenses. Our services also include minor medical treatments.

At Crane Optical, our philosophy is simple: just as regular visits to your family doctor and dentist are essential, so too is regular eye care. We rely on our vision more than any other sense, yet many eye conditions often go unnoticed without routine exams. Early detection can lead to more effective treatments, ensuring that you continue to see the world clearly for many years to come.

Our Team

Crane Optical is proud to have a dedicated, compassionate, and experienced team committed to providing top-quality eye care. 

 Dr. Erin Wu, O.D. received her bachelor’s degree in biology from Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and then attended the University of Missouri-St. Louis College of Optometry for her doctorate.  She graduated as a member of Beta Sigma Kappa honors fraternity and has now been practicing optometry for over a decade.  Dr. Wu wants everyone to feel welcome, comfortable, and informed when they visit her for an eye exam.  She believes that health checks are just as important as finding a new prescription and will give you a thorough exam.  Dr. Erin Wu has been a valued member of the Crane Optical team for several years and brings warmth, expertise, and genuine care to every patient she sees. Outside the office, she enjoys gardening, cooking and spending quality time with her husband and their two young boys. 

 Kristie, our dedicated office manager and Michigan native, has been an essential part of the Crane Optical family for over a decade. Her experience and commitment shine through in everything she does—from coordinating patient care to supporting our doctors and team behind the scenes. Over the years, Kristie has worked closely with both Dr. Crane and now Dr. Wu, helping ensure every patient receives the personalized, attentive care Crane Optical is known for. When she’s not keeping the office running smoothly, Kristie loves spending time with her family, her two dogs, and tending to her garden.

Amanda, our optician, brings over 23 years of optical experience to our team. Born in Massachusetts and raised in Michigan from the age of one, she’s thrilled to be sharing her passion for helping patients see their best. Outside of work, Amanda enjoys spending time with her husband, dog, family, and friends. She loves a good road trip and never misses a chance to visit her brother in Austin or her sister in Belgium.

Jeremy Crane, our Vice President, is responsible for the overall direction of Crane Optical. Charged with handling frame buying for the shop, he is always looking for cool new brands to complement our amazing lineup of frames. When not spending time with his wife and two young children, he can be found trying on new sunglasses and explaining the benefits each different lens provides.  

Together, the Crane Optical team strives to provide outstanding service and personalized eye care to every patient.
